At last night’s celebration for François Nars’s new book, Makeup Your Mind: Express Yourself, model Andrej Pejic weighed in on the controversy over his shirtless Dossier cover, which was censored by Borders and Barnes & Noble.
“I think the question really isn’t the gender of the person on the cover, it’s whether it’s porn or it’s art. And clearly, it’s art, so art really should not be censored in a democratic society,” he explained.
He then grinned and added, “But, you know, I have just been named the 98th sexiest woman in the world, so it makes the situation a little bit confusing for them.”
We mused that it seems silly how all the bare-chested men on fitness magazines don’t seem to make bookstores nervous, and Pejic nodded. “Yeah. But even that, I think, is irrelevant. It’s art, so I don’t think it should be censored at all. It’s not any sort of sexual image.”
His summer plans? “I’m off to Brazil soon, for the shows there. And I’m doing the men’s shows in Paris and Milan.
There’s a few projects here and there, maybe some TV stuff.” He’s also looking for an apartment in New York, in the East Village or Williamsburg. “I have to travel a lot, but I’m trying to have this as a base.”
