A Note For You

Let's redouble our efforts to help once more! After the last campaign's tremendous outpouring of support from amazing people all across the globe (Thank you!!), we have decided to relaunch with a new goal. We are now focusing on raising funds to cover the cost to film Andreja's story. Join us by backing Andrej(a) so together we can share this story with the world.

First, Why Kickstarter?

Last fall we were waiting for a deal with a national television network interested in Andreja's story. Up to that point, Andreja, Eric and a few loyal friends in NYC had been paying out of their own pockets for the filming and production. When the team finally received the deal terms from the network, however, we discovered that we would be bound to alter parts of her story to be more "commercially viable." We felt that her story did not deserve to be dictated by the demands of network executives.

The incredible success stories of those who have turned to their fans for support, such as Zach Braff, LeVar Burton, and Veronica Mars, have inspired us to take the Kickstarter route for backing. We get to connect directly with Andreja's awesome and inspiring fans (that's you!) and, most importantly, we can complete this project according to the team's vision. We are really excited for this new campaign and know that it is a crucial step in an important journey. We have lined up some really cool and unique rewards, and we will keep you updated all along the way.

In the summer of 2014, Andreja came out as a trans woman, and her life will never be the same. She’s crossed into unprecedented territory as the first model to change her physical sex and public identity mid-career.

Through Andreja’s life story, Andrej(a) will explore gender issues in-depth around the globe, and the fashion industry and its attitude towards diversity will be a focal point.

From a refugee camp in the Balkans to the world’s biggest runways, from boyhood to androgyny to womanhood, from hiding to the highest level of self-acceptance, this documentary captures an individual whose biggest dream is to live an authentic, happy, and normal life. It is a public struggle by a brave person for the most basic of human needs: to be accepted and respected as the person she has always known herself to be.

從在巴爾幹半島的難民營走上國際伸展台、從青少年時期到雌雄同體以及轉變為女性。從隱藏到自我接納,這部紀錄片拍攝一個人最大的夢想,就是活在真實、快樂,正常的人生。這是一個勇敢的人向公眾爭取身為人應得的基本權利:接納和尊重她對自己的自我認同。

All of this will be seen through the eyes of Andreja, her peers, pioneers who have paved the way, and the trans and gender non-conforming youth who are just now coming of age. Our goal is to capture Andreja's life, struggles, and, hopefully, her overcoming of the bias and stereotypes standing in the way of not just her future, but that of an entire young generation.

I'm in! How Do I Help Reach the Goal?

Join with us to help fund Andrej(a)! $40,000 will help continue to cover principal videography and travel throughout the United States, France, UK, Serbia and Australia. We decided to set a lower goal to focus on the most important part of the project, capturing Andreja for the next year across the globe. Eric, our director, will do what he needs to do to make sure the important parts of the journey are filmed. With the great footage we capture we will have enough leverage to sign a deal with a distributor that loves the project. We will not give up! With your support we will produce the best and most professional festival-going documentary possible.

Risks and challenges

 

Our biggest challenge is distribution. We do not have a distributor attached yet. Eric, Andreja, and the rest of the team are confident that we will inspire interest in the right people to distribution partner with us. In order to secure distribution, we plan on bringing the film to as many major international film festivals as possible. There, we will meet with distributors and hopefully find the perfect group for this project. Our goal is set as such to ensure we have the best film possible to share with distributors.
