The film is being funded by a Kickstarter campaign which has so far raised more than $30,000.
She explained in a Reddit AMA on Monday that she decided to go public with her story in order to be a role model for young people in similar situations.
'I think at the end of the day, you have to live a truthful life and be true to yourself,' she said. 'You have one life and everything has to fall into place around that.'
Andreja, who was born a male named Andrej and says she is attracted to men 'for the most part', launched into fame for her ability to effortlessly model both men's and women's clothing.
At Paris Fashion Week in 2011, she walked the catwalk for Jean Paul Gaultier's men's collection as well as his women's collection. She also modeled Marc Jacobs' menswear line.
But since transitioning earlier this year, Andreja says that from here on in, 'I will only be modeling as a female.'
The documentary follows all the ups and downs of Andreja's journey, from her decision to officially live as a woman to her recovery process.
'I was there the whole time,' said director Eric Miclette, adding that there were times when it was a struggle not to put down the camera and comfort Andreja.
In one part of the clip, Andreja's hospital bracelet shows that she was operated on by Scottsdale, Arizona-based doctor Toby Meltzer, who specializes in reconstructive procedures.
'I knew I was a woman from a young age,' Andreja revealed during the Reddit AMA. 'I definitely had fun with androgyny and having a non-binary career, but I knew what my internal truth was.'
