Bosnian-born, Australian-raised Andrej Pejic is one of fashion??s most beautiful and controversial figures.
Between the strong bone structure, wiry frame and platinum locks, there isn’t a designer that would turn this stunner away—especially since Pejic is as comfortable modelling men’s ready-to-wear as he is women’s couture.
Dubbed the “prettiest boy in the world,” Pejic has newly opened gender to interpretation and, in doing so, literally made himself today’s most bookable working model.
•Andrej Pejic was born in 1991 in Tuzla, then fled with his family shortly thereafter to a refugee camp near Belgrade. After NATO’s bombing of Serbia in 1999, Melbourne became their permanent home.
•He was discovered whilst in secondary school by the director of Chadwick Models, though it is unclear if the scout knew he was male. The teenager’s jarringly effeminate looks and remarkable self-confidence soon caught the eyes of both men’s and womenswear designers.
•His first major editorial spread was for Vogue Paris. This visibility led to work for Jean Paul Gaultier, Marc Jacobs and, quite astonishingly, a lingerie campaign for the Dutch retailer HEMA.
•After Pejic shot a topless cover for Dossier Journal magazine, American bookstores deemed the photo too racy and covered it with an opaque sleeve.
•He has earned the 18th spot on models.com Top 50 Male Models list and been named one of Out magazine’s 100 Most Compelling People of 2011.
